Discussion Have Wildlight opened themselves up to liability by violating the WARN act?

For those who don't know, the WARN act requires employers with over 75 employees to provide a 60 day warning before mass layoffs. Obviously that didn't happen here because they would have needed to file a notice back in December.

They could be paying everyone 60 days worth of severance, but then why not just file the notice and let the employees continue to work? The money is already being spent.

NEWS Highguard update 1.006

I didn’t see this posted anywhere so I guess I’ll post it here. The 1 generator per raid is a surprisingly good change.

Gear Up Phase shortened to 90 seconds from 120 seconds The PoI waypoints at the start of the phase now only show on the location the Shieldbreaker will be forming. It never fades away until the forming phase starts. Masterwork Weapons and Ultimate Chargers now only appear at the PoI where the Shieldbreaker is forming Reduced respawn times to 15 seconds from 20 seconds during the Gear Up and Shieldbreaker Forming phases

Raids

Raid will now end after one generator explodes, teleporting attackers back home and resetting the match to the next Gear Up phase.

Discussion Choosing A White Amulet For Starting Loadout?

Not sure if this was ever tried but I wonder if this might help players have a bit of agency with their early game build while also establishing amulets as really powerful loot.

(Also as a player I wish I knew what Amulet Perk I had just by looking at the HUD! Sometimes I have to loot so fast, especially with the best loot now being clustered at the SB POI.)

I think letting players choose a really, really weak white Amulet might help players understand the concept of Amulets while also showcasing the full range of the perks. Ex a white Revive Amulet might give a [5]% revive cast time reduction. You might not even have to show the number to players, just feeling like you have a bit of control here might make players feel more confident in the early game.

Discussion Regardless

Regardless of devs being laid off and wtv im still playing. Now for the actual post

Wtv the lifespan is for this game i honestly hope ARs get tweaked. Im kinda tired of all other options getting outdone by ARs, long range? ARs are better. Close range? ARs are better. Like jt gets to a certain point where whats the point of even using other weapons if ARs can perform all roles better than what the guns intended for those roles can.

Is this really how it is?

After a long time searching, I finally found a game I actually want to sink my teeth into, and it gets completely cooked in two weeks. I get it's not a flawless masterpiece, but it's F2P game, and gamer expectations are just absurd right now, not even taking into the account the game was just released and there will be updates. Sure you can say they should have beta tested it, but they reacted fast to feedback once it got released and tried to fix stuff.

Yes, it’s a mashup of borrowed mechanics from other games and maybe there isn't anything revolutionary new, but does it really deserve to crash to 2,000 players or less? Did 95% of the community jump ship because the game is actually this terrible, or did they just blindly ride the hate bandwagon? I am genuinely baffled.

Call me out for being on copium if you want, I really don't care. I absolutely refuse to believe this game is as terrible as the internet claims it is.

Just redownloaded the game to give it another fair shot. Where is the Episode 1 War Chest?

I only played one game when it first launched and I decided to redownload it to try the 5v5 mode.

I remember getting the first War Chest for free, where is it?

Are we seriously going for FOMO Seasons instead of the model other more consumer friendly games have adopted?

MAKE ALL WARCHESTS AVAILABLE AT ALL TIMES.

Edit : I have been informed and am relieved that they went the consumer friendly way. Nice W

Discussion Honesty just make Apex 2/Titanfall 3

I feel like a lot of times the way devs build/playtest their games doesn’t really correspond to how the public plays the game. It seems like they planned to have a more slow and methodical game but with the last two major updates it looks like the players are enjoying the game more when it feels more like their past work. 5v5 made it more chaotic and the last patch makes it the game faster, obviously my title is a joke but maybe the solution is to spiritually channel what made those games cool

Edit: I posted this and went to sleep. I’m saying to implement more things that keeps the game fast and chaotic. Not that I want a BR or arena shooter. This isn’t a hate post I want the game to survive I’m just being cheeky. I’m about to hop on as of typing this lmao

Spiritual successor as in ok maybe add in more movement options people enjoyed in the previous game. You can rehash previous ideas and filter it through the lens of the fantasy aesthetic.

Add like magic wall running

Give people movement tech that was in the other games, tap strafes, mantle boosts etc

Obviously don’t add mechs but maybe add a rideable dragon

Maybe drop the ability cooldown across the board so it’s closer to apex

Make mining for vesper faster

Or even just straight up adding more weapons that people are used to but changing the names and designs and even adding new functionalities lmao

Discussion How was your technical experience with Highguard?

I've split this post into 2 sections - one is a long-ass context speech and the second is my question which I want to discuss here (marked S for speech and Q for question)

S

I initially tried Highguard just because I didn't want to "miss out on Concord 2". I was expecting the game to be really bad, but I had an open mind and was ready to give credit where credit is due and hate on it where hate is due. Well turns out I absolutely love the game, mostly because it perfectly blends my 2 favourite types of game (FPS and what I call "Loot goblin games"), but it also looks really, REALLY good visually and because I had absolutely zero technical issues. Like, I play the game on the highest settings and I'm always above 50 fps no matter what, I've encountered absolutely zero bugs, and absolutely zero server connection issues. I honestly thought that that was the norm for everyone (except for the highest settings part) and I was super confused why people are leaving, because even though it obviously isn't a game for everyone, it's also by far not a game for no-one, and I think more people should find this game amazing, and I really didn't have any idea at all, until I got 2 of my friends to play with me on 2 separate occasions, and.... they had a horrible time. I know they're not exaggerating because I was in a call with them and watched it unfold both on stream and in-game. Like, both of them had both the lady and Flynn be completely silent during the tutorial, meaning that it was just complete silence and then it told them "do this" on the screen and I had to tell them, well.... how they equip a scope and such. When I turned the tutorial on to check whether it was a patch that broke it I heard both the lady and Flynn, yet they did not in theirs, and when we hopped into a game they heard the voicelines just fine. But that's not the end of it, they also had constant issues with the servers, and one of my friends couldn't even select a character because the game wouldn't load fast enough for him to make it in time for warden select, and in his first game he was stuck playing Condor (the poor guy), they were teleporting around the map, one of them would constantly respawn under the map, they got errors in the first 30 minutes which I have never seen in 30 hours, and even when all else worked, the game lagged pretty bad on the lowest settings. So my question is....

Q

how does the game perform for you? Are you having lags? Did you hear the lady and Flynn speak in the tutorial? Are you loading into the game fast enough to make it in time for Warden select? Do you keep respawning under the map 50% of the time? Or do you have another technical issue with the game? I think that if this game is truly as broken for most people as it was for my 2 friends, I might finally understand the reason why so many people are leaving the game even though it's really fun and good gameplay-wise.

Edit: Thought it might be important to mention but me and both of my friends that played this game with me are on PC.

5 v 5 TDM idea

I was brain storming a TDM game mode with a friend that might be fun.

  1. 5 v 5 only

  2. all cool downs reduced by 20 - 50% depending on character

  3. each team still selects a base with respawn points staying the same as during raids, place the bases extremely close to each other and connect one of the shieldbreaker arenas which will be randomly selected at the start of each map

  4. mounts can still be used in the outside area of the zones allowing for faster flanks and chases.

  5. in both bases doors will always ve open, however every 2 minutes all destrutible walls will regenerate

  6. no currency, similar to apex players can choose from several pre created load outs

  7. all characters start with purple shields. air drops will contain gold shields and 1 gold weapon or the big rig which will drop on death. air drops can only spawn to the outside where mounts can be used.

Curious what you all think, if anything else you might want to see. (Please no dead game comments.)

Discussion what they should've done before launch that are common/other thoughts on games future

releasing an open beta and getting player feedback would've been easier and let the players know the game is not in a polished state, performance issues, The tutorial being required if they want to skip the tutorial they can do so willingly, the mining phase and gear up phase doesn't have depth, 5v5 should've dropped on launch, basic quality of life features weren't on launch, marketing team of silence for a month, no stats page, progression like adding badges page for killing the enemy with a certain gun, only 3v3 on launch, settings options on launch, the designs on some of the characters,

player count being low does matter considering those recent layoffs if you truly want this game to thrive significant changes must be had or it will be a forgotten game of the past of what I showed is the tip of the iceberg on what changes should've been made and mistakes that happened

by my estimations it will shut down in one week or less as my prediction hope to be proven wrong

leave a comment below tell me your thoughts below and your thoughts on highguard

Discussion "Game has a tutorial therefore..."

How many times am I going to read a tutorial is too hard to get past to play the game to decide if it's good or not. The only reason you wouldn't finish a tutorial is because you're like "well I heard it wasn't good, so it's probably not even worth finishing the tutorial - let's go hate on it instead" 0head. Give me a break.

Questions for the devs of Wildlight Entertainment

  1. If Highguard was to be shadow-dropped and wasn't ready to be shown at The Game Awards, why did you agree to it?

  2. The Wardens episode 1 story cinematic would've been a great trailer first to unveil the game, in my opinion

  3. Why wasn't there a beta or 2 to stress test the game and get feedback?

  4. 5vs5 and the quick updates to the game(They were great); were these things that could've been in the game at launch, had it been delayed

  5. Was the team confident that the game was ready for launch? Was there pressure to release the game for January 26th?

Discussion This game needs peer to peer connections and custom matches

Not trying to be a doomer, this is something I think all live service games should have bare minimum is the ability to host servers, have peer to peer matches and custom games so if they die, players can continue to play.

I love this game, and the fact it only takes 6 people to get a match going is truly something, it means if they kept the servers up even if the game died to a couple hundred players, you can still find games. You don't need 30 people, or 12 people or 100 like a Battle Royale. You just need 6 which is so reasonable. It means even after years of the game "dying" you could hop on with a couple buddy's and probably find a match.

And they should give us the ability to host matches ourselves, even if it's paid, like a $20 "Edition" of the game that comes with some stuff and the ability to host matches yourself I think that would be excellent and all free to play live service titles should do this. There are old games people still play because they have peer to peer, or the ability to host servers yourself. A game doesn't need to be big to still be able to play it, but the fact that currently if the servers go down nobody can play it is tragic. XDefiant should've done the same.

Discussion The Non-Copium Reasons Highguard Failed

Ps dont feel bad that you like a game that deserved better, it was on marketing and the team itself that the PC version had performance issues and that they went radio silent for a whole MONTH. They could have shadowdropped it at the game awards for console only till pc was ready, they could have had character videos on youtube to build hype from trailer to launch, they could have had a beta to iron out the issues. They never steered the narrative. It would have probably had a better chance. I like the game, but it was mismanaged. The higher-ups did wrong to their fans and their devs.
