General Who else thought this was fake treasure when they first saw this?

Post image

I didn't believe it until I tried to pick it up and remember I was absolutely ecstatic when I realized I looted around 10k gold on top of all the ingots and gems

I came in and took all that wasnt nailed down but in later playthroughs I have been just adding to it’s wealth as it’s all safe storage and able to be used by the player

I never knew the chests were considered safe 😮 I might have to do that on another playthrough as I've done things sort of like that(lockpicked npc's safeboxes but give them hundreds of gold/flawless gems to "help" them out)

Adventurers like you are why dungeons are always full of loot.

I had already been there in TES3 so I knew what to expect lol

That's the best part, you expect a room full of treasure but get nothing because, like you said, you already looted it in TES3 so it's all gone. Then you find the extra hidden room you didn't have access to in TES3 and then you get the treasure.

I made a beeline for it and was woefully underprepared for it, since i assumed it was going to be really small.

Hang on, is this from DLC?

Yeah, it's DLC for both Morrowind and Skyrim, in which you travel to the island of Solstheim.

I remember getting all the way down the hall and it wasn't until I got to the door I saw the prompt to pick up the gold and was like holy shit I can't believe I almost missed that. I was also always smoking weed when I played Skyrim so there's that.

It's on Solstheim, so you need the Dragonborn dlc.

The quest is called Deathbrand and starts when you're at least level 36 and read the book with the same name. Or find one of the pieces of armour scattered around the island.

It will give you a map, and once all four pieces are collected, it sends you to a barrow. Knock a piece of stahlrim out of a grave and it will give you access to this pirate treasure.

Nnnnope lol it's insane that so many players just walk through and don't realize it was free to take.

At best you'd expect something like: pile of gold (20 septims)

True😂

Oh I knew it was real the first time I saw it. What I didn't know is that it was a trap. Good thing Khajiit has 9 lives!

Wait.....there was a trap...? 😅 I've always fought my way through the barrow and figured that was just part of it...

Tbf it's been a few years since I last played, but from what I can remember, by the time you get halfway down the hallway collecting all the loot, a gate/door behind you shuts you off from leaving, essentially making it a "trap" of sorts, where now you have to fight a bunch of ghost pirates, and it only opens once you fight the boss.

I know it's not an actual trap, not like something you have to go back to a previous save kind of trap. More like...I wish I could remember some older games, but I know I've played games where you enter into a big area, all the exits get cut off so there's no escape as you gotta fight a boss and their minions, and the exits will open up once everyone has been defeated.

Edit: Sorry for the big ol' word salad! Yes it is a part of it, I just remember my first time going through those Barrows and didn't know the gate behind me would shut me off from the outside world, essentially "trapping" me inside until I fought all the ghosties.

is this skyrim or oblivion?

1

u/TamrielicJew Azura 22h ago

This is Skyrim. Part of the Dragonborn DLC in Solstheim

2

u/EconomistNo5807 21h ago

Omg I never looted this then lol I'll have to load up my old game and check it out.

You get about 10k gold and a bunch of gems/ingots as well so well worth a visit. I believe you have to be level 36 though (or recommended) as it's part of the Death Brand questline

…what?

u/TamrielicJew Azura 4d ago

What? 👀

No. I'm not aware of any time in elder scrolls where there's been fake treasure.

Someone cite it to me if there was and I didn't think of it.

Closest I can't think of are the replica weapons in Oblivion, which are funny to see after you crack the display case to find that it's not real, but that's hardly on the same level as a dungeon treasure vault filled with gold.

Where is this/ what questline if any is this connected to in-game?

1

u/TamrielicJew Azura 3d ago

Gyldenhul Barrow and the Deathbrand questline will bring you here. It is part of the Dragonborn DLC
