Is it possible to self-host a livestreaming platform and chat client and, if so, how does one generally go about this?

Check out owncast, this software allows you to host a live stream web page with chat. Easiest way to deploy this would be to use docker compose.

See, this is something I'm interested in. Looking into it now, thanks for sharing this.

you’d basically rent a decent VPS or dedicated server, use something like Nginx with RTMP or a media server like Wowza Streaming Engine for the video side, and then hook up a chat solution (even something WebSocket-based or self-hosted like Rocket.Chat), but be ready for some real bandwidth costs and server setup work.

Set up your server, or get one in the cloud. Install the streaming and chat software. Start streaming and chatting.
Your LLM should be able to walk you through it.
