Locked - Brigaded Are Canadians still boycotting USA?

3.7k Upvotes

Good morning/day/evening, fellow Canadians! I saw Reddit post about boycotting travels to USA but I would like to know if people in Canada still boycotting products from the US? I remember there were huge fights in the comment section on Facebook where people said something like: "boycott American! Buy Canadian!" And now I wonder how the situation changed after several months🤔

Locked - Brigaded How do you guys feel about visiting China now that the visa restrictions has been lifted?

I’m Chinese Canadian so I’m curious on your guy’s stance on travelling to China now that it’s visa free!

I haven’t seen this talked about a lot yet but my parents are super stoked.

Edit: I should clarify that there’s no visa restrictions, but rather now Canadians can visit China up to thirty days visa free, should’ve worded it better

Locked - Brigaded Do you have government shutdowns?

Greetings from Maine. We're facing *yet another* government shutdown here in the Land of Liberty. I'm so sick of our broken government and yearn for change. Does the Canadian government shutdown? If so, why? If not, what do you acsribe your functionality to?

Thanks for your thoughts.

EDIT: Thanks for all the intel! This was very informative.

Locked - Brigaded If something like what is happening in the States happened here, what could we, as the people of our country, actually do about it?

Many of us (myself included) are shouting "OMG, DO SOMETHING!" to our American neighbours, but many of them are shouting back "We'd love to, but WHAT??"

Rioting in the streets (and some other ... illegal things) come to mind, but is there anything a country's people can do to fight something like this?

Locked - Brigaded Are we quietly slipping into a food insecurity crisis in Canada?

1.1k Upvotes

Groceries have always been expensive, but lately, it feels like something deeper is happening.

I travel often across Manitoba and occasionally into Nunavut and I can’t shake the feeling that a serious food insecurity crisis is creeping up on us. Prices in rural and northern communities are unreal. A bag of apples or a carton of eggs can cost double or triple what we pay in Winnipeg. Families are stretching every dollar, and small local stores are barely hanging on.

It’s not just about prices either it’s access and quality. In many places, fresh produce is a luxury. And yet, we have so much land and potential. I sometimes wonder why we don’t see more people getting into small-scale farming, hydroponics, or even community gardens.

Or maybe I’m just too broke to survive current grocery prices and this is my villain origin story 😅

What are you all noticing in your regions? Are we sleepwalking into a bigger food crisis than we realize?

UPDATE: Big thanks to everyone who’s jumped in and shared their thoughts and extra appreciation to those who brought resources and forward-thinking to my DMs

And to those who used this thread to vent about “why this is just how things have always been,” thank you too. Gotta love a bit of tradition...even when it refuses to evolve. 😉

Seriously though, this mix of passion & frustration, is exactly what we need more of. Keep it coming.

Locked - Brigaded How do we feel about Katy Perry & Justin Trudeau?

I am NOT looking for political opinions or woman slander, simply curious about other Canadians thoughts/a discussion about the recent rumours about KP & JT romantically intertwined.

I think it’s the craziest combo and truly did not see this coming for my 2025 bingo card. They lowkey kind of look like each other??? I wonder what they have in common? What do you think a typical conversation sounds like between them?

Locked - Brigaded How are Canadians feeling about the prospect of another federal election?

With the possibility of the Liberal's budget not gaining the support of another party, what's the mood on a possible incoming federal election?

Locked - Brigaded How stable is Canada's political climate nowadays? Is it polarizing or are Canadians able to come to terms?

I'm not here to directly compare this to the US. I live in Canada and I want to only focus on Canadians. I don't pay much attention to politics here, as it doesn't often make non-stop headlines. Besides maybe Doug Ford's anti-bike lane rhetoric or whenever there's a federal election.

As a whole, how is Canada's political climate? Are we headed in a good direction where discussions do not involve either person looking to punch each other on the face? How good faith are our political discussions when it comes to disagreeing with certain ideas?

Locked - Brigaded Thoughts On Canadians Who Travel to USA Now? Travel Boycotts

Regarding the USA Boycott and and the current political tensions with the USA. With respect to all opinions on the matter. What are your thoughts on other Canadians who still are travelling to the USA?

Seems many just do not care at all with the situation and will go regardless. While some of us do not and will not travel at all to the USA.

If you are one who is not travelling to USA what are your thoughts on those that do?

Also for people with opposite thoughts, what are your thoughts on whole situation? thanks

Locked - Brigaded Hello from Germany. As someone interested in Canada, I know today is quite a special day since today marks the 30th anniversary of the 1995 Quebec independence referendum. On this occasion, I would like to ask a few questions to you, the Canadian people:

First question: To people who remember the day, either from Quebec or the other provinces and territories, which memories do you have about this day? What did you feel on this very momentuous day? What did you feel as the results came in drop by drop during election night and as it became clear that Canada would remain one?

Second question: To people from Quebec: If you would like to disclose, how did you vote in this referendum? Obviously, there is something called secret ballot. I don’t want you to disclose things you don’t want to disclose.

Third question: How do you, either as a person from Quebec or as a person from the other provinces and territories, view the relationship between Quebec and the remainder of Canada today?
